Wellness works wonders.| Don’t get bored by it

For many industries competing for staff, wellness remains a unique way to win. But "wellness fatigue" among leadership is rising. Here's how to address that.

Employee wellness programs have become increasingly popular in recent years, as companies recognize the importance of taking care of their employees’ physical and mental health. These programs can provide significant benefits to both employees and employers, such as reduced absenteeism, increased productivity, and improved job satisfaction.

Yet it seems that some wellness fatigue is setting in across leadership. What was exciting and new, is in danger of becoming operationalised as “a hygiene factor” in the workplace. For many industries, particularly those competing for staff, wellness is a given – but it remains a unique way to win.

“The body is a machine; a complicated machine; but still a machine, and it must be given its fuel and oils.” – H.G. Wells

One common misconception about employee wellness programs is that they only apply to white-collar jobs or office workers. However, wellness is important for employees in all sectors, including manufacturing and manual labour. In fact, physical health and safety are critical components of wellness in these industries. Companies that prioritize employee wellness in these areas often see improvements in productivity and morale. Wellness fortifies capability across mind, body and spirit, allowing employees to be truly present at work.

According to a study by the World Economic Forum, for every $1 invested in employee wellness programs, companies see an average return on investment of $2.71. Conversely, mental health issues cost an estimated $1 trillion to the global economy every year due to lost productivity. How much productivity gains can your organisation make with investment and fortification in wellness. This stuff isn’t woo-woo. It’s real and it makes a difference. Be well.
